center of the sewed material. All thread ends shall be trimmed. Unless otherwise specified
herein, edge stitching shall be 3/16 ± 1/32 inch from the edge.
3.5.3 Metal components. The following metal components for the belt and shoulder strap
shall be fabricated of the copper base allows specified in 3.3.4:
Buckle with center bar and two-hook type tongues; two-prong hook (one each required
for fastening belt.)
Buckle with center bar and single tongue (one required for joining shoulder strap to
shoulder strap extension).
Button with washer (two required for attaching shoulder strap and shoulder strap
extension to shoulder strap tab).
Button with washer (one required for securing end of belt to body of belt).
"Dee" ring secured to waist belt by waist belt tab (two required for attaching shoulder
strap components to waist belt).
NOTE: See Drawing No. 4-4-102 for design and dimensions of above metal components.
3.5.4. Finished requirements. All surface and edges of the metal components shall be clean,
smooth and free from burrs, drag step, tool marks, roughness, sharp edges and corners. In
addition, all outer surfaces and edges of the metal components visible on the outside of the
waist belt and shoulder strap shall be highly polished to a mirror-like finish. The highly polished
finish does not apply to the button. The button shall be black.
3.5.5 Snap fasteners. The hole punched before inserting applicable snap fastener tube shall
be smaller than the outside diameter of the tube so that the tube must be forced through the
hole. All fasteners shall be securely clinched.
3.6 Marking. The size, name of manufacturer, NSN or Certification Number and contract
number (if applicable) shall be ink stamped or gold leafed on the inside of both the belt and the
shoulder strap.
3.7 Finished measurements. The finished measurements of the waist belt and shoulder strap
shall conform to the measurements specified in Drawing No. 4-4-102. The thickness of the
poromeric and leather components shall be 1/8 ± 1/32 inch.
3.8 Workmanship. The finished belt with shoulder strap shall conform to the quality and
grade of product established by this specification, and shall be well made and finished free from
any defect which may adversely affect appearance or serviceability. The occurrence of defects
shall not exceed the applicable acceptable quality levels (AQL's).
4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of Inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified
as follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.3).
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.4).
4.2 Inspection conditions. Unless otherwise specified, all inspection shall be performed
in accordance with the test conditions specified in 4.4 and 4.5.
