flesh sides of the leather shall be black or dark brown in color, shall be a smooth finish and shall
show good colorfastness . Embossing or printing shall not be permitted.
3.3.3 Sealer. A black shade aqueous solution sealer shall be used after fabrication of the
components for finishing the smooth edges of the poromeric/leather material.
3.3.4 Copper base alloys. The buckles and buttons (see 3.5.4) shall be made of a copper
base alloy having a chemical composition of 84.0 to 86.0 percent copper, 0.05 percent
maximum lead, 0.05 percent maximum iron, 0.15 percent maximum total other elements and
the remaining percent zinc. The copper base alloy shall be free from pits, scale, (including red
oxide), dents, nicks, cracks, deep scratches, segregation, and foreign inclusions which cannot
be removed in later processing. Gold plating is optional.
3.3.5 Adhesive. The adhesive (see 6.5) shall be a natural or synthetic rubber solvent cement
or synthetic resin cement.
3.3.6 Fastener, snap. The snap fasteners shall conform to style 2A, finish 2 of MIL-F-10884
and NAS27981 and shall consist of the following components: buttons 1B, socket 3B, stud
4B, and eyelet 7B. The buttons shall have a black high gloss finish to match the basic
material in 3.3.1.
3.3.7 Thread, cotton. The thread for all stitching operations shall be cotton, glazed finish,
ticket No. 10, 4-ply conforming to requirements for type III B of A-A-52094. As an alternate,
nylon thread conforming to type II, class A, size E of V-T-295 may be used.
3.3.7.1 Color and colorfastness. The thread shall be dyed black. The dyed thread shall show
good fastness to light when tested as specified in the thread specification.
3.4 Design. The belt shall be the U. S. Marine Corps design shown on Drawing No. 4-4-102,
consisting of a waist belt and shoulder strap with one buckle (with center bar and two-hook type
tongues; two-prong hook) for fastening belt, one buckle (with center bar and single tongue) for
attaching the shoulder strap to shoulder strap extension, 3 buttons with washers, two required
for attaching shoulder strap and shoulder strap extension to shoulder strap tab and one required
for securing end of belt to body of belt and two "Dee" Rings secured to waist belt by waist belt
tab for attaching shoulder strap components to waist belt.
3.5 Construction. The construction shall conform in all respects to Drawing No. 4-4-102 and
as specified herein.
3.5.1 Class 1. The belt shall consist of one ply of poromeric material (3.3.1) and one ply of
leather (3.3.2), with the flesh side of the leather cemented to the back of the poromeric with the
adhesive specified in 3.3.5. The adhesive is required for cementing together the plies in order
to obtain the required thickness (see 3.7).
3.5.2 Stitches and stitching. The stitch and stitching type specified herein shall conform to
ASTM-D-6193. The number of stitches per inch as specified indicates the minimum and
maximum number permitted. Stitch type 301 and 6 stitches per inch shall be used for all
stitching. Thread breaks in stitching shall be backstitched not less than 1 inch at each break.
Stitching shall be backstitched at the ends to prevent raveling. Thread tension shall be
maintained properly so that there will be no loose stitching and the lock will be embedded in the
